Live, that are 100 years

A vivir que son 100 años

The General CSIC Foundation opens on October 1 the exhibition "Live, that are 100 years". The inaugural conference will be in charge of Alexandre Kalache, president of the International Longevity Center (ILC) -Brazil.

The prolongation of individual life trajectories and the consequent ageing process -individual and social- offer some of the most exciting challenges facing scientific research today. This demographic change has provoked a great interest for the greater number of elderly people, and especially for the longest people, and also for the factors that intervene in those long lives.

What makes people live to such advanced ages: genetics, lifestyles, social conditions? How do scientists study this process of demographic ageing (greater proportion of elderly people) and especially the process of individual ageing (deterioration of the organic systems in the final stage of a person's life). What are the consequences of having a greater number of people live longer lives? What social challenges are presented to us and how are the responses prepared to them? These and other questions will be answered in the exhibition "Live, that are 100 years".

This is one of the actions that the General CSIC Foundation develops in the framework of the project "International Centre on Ageing" Interreg V-A -POCTEP (0348_CIE_6_E).
